This is a good spot to have a spin with light gear and small lures for kahawai when there are too many boats to make fishing at the wharf pleasant. Try fishing on the incoming tide for the best results
Walk over from the end of Urqharts Bay and rockfish for snapper (often to big sizes), kahawai, trevally and stingrays. Use sinkers against the current and baits of mullet, skipjack, pilchards, or piper.
Great rock fishing in spring for snapper. Access at low tide from the Tapeka ramp , dusk fishing with a wet walk back after dark is the way to go! Have good footwear. Fresh bait is best for off the rocks.
This fishing spot is good all year round, about 1 km offshore. shellfish, mullet or pilchards are good baits for catching snapper, gurnard, blue cod and with live bait can catch john dory.
This is a well-regarded tarakihi spot that fishes well right through spring and into summer.
Look for some foul with even a whisper of a sign on the sounder.
